Dan Wade’s passion for brewing was undeniable, but what truly made him special was his dedication to sharing that passion with others. He wanted everyone to have the opportunity to learn not only the delicate intricacies of brewing great beer, but also the general ins and outs of this industry.
Twice a month, Dan hosted “Beer School” for the Wooden Robot team-welcoming not just the brew staff but bartenders, coffee baristas, and the kitchen team. He wanted everyone to understand the craft, the science, and the creativity behind brewing. More than anything, Dan believed in bringing people together and providing a space for people to learn.
To carry on his legacy, the Wade family along with some wonderful friends, have established the Dan Wade Memorial Scholarship— a program designed to give aspiring brewers access to the education and training that meant so much to him. This scholarship is open to anyone over the age of 21, whether already in the industry or a homebrewer looking to take the next step. The goal is to send the first recipient to Appalachian State’s Brewing Short Course in the summer of 2026, a program that helps deepen knowledge of brewing science and industry operations. We would like our scholarship funds to be able to cover the cost of the course, which is $2000, the hotel stay, with any remaining funds going towards travel expenses and food for the week, for a total annual goal of $3,500 per student.
